For additional information and/or answers to questions not listed here or at our partners' sites, send an email to the eLearning coordinator.
What is eLearning?
E-Learning is learning at a distance that uses computer technology (usually the Internet). At Valencia Enterprises all of the online courses are completed via the Internet (online). Most of the online courses are offered in partnership with various educational vendors. The courses are not taken through Valencia 's web site; instead, students will access one of our partners' web sites to take their courses.
Is taking an online course for me?
If you don't have time to travel to a traditional class and need flexibility with your schedule, an online course might be an option for you. If you are comfortable with using a computer and navigating the Internet, are self-disciplined, have good organizational and time management skills, and a willingness to learn in an exciting interactive environment, then eLearning is a good match.
How do I see a list of online courses?
To view a comprehensive list of the courses, click on the Schedule of Online Courses. Some courses can also be viewed at our joint web sites with our partners.
What are the requirements for the courses; i.e., computer, Internet, books, etc.?
All online courses require students to have an e-mail address and access to a computer and the Internet . Some courses also require the student to have the specific software on his/her computer. View individual course description for software or text requirements. Most online courses do not require books; however, a few courses do; i.e., test preparation, insurance, and medical administration. The cost for a book is generally not included in the fee. Click on the specific partner's link to view detailed information. Some partners also have FAQ's specific to their courses, which should be accessed and read thoroughly.
When do the courses start?
Most online courses can be started at any time. Generally, you can start a course within 3-4 business days after registering, with the exception of the Ed2Go courses, which start on a specific day and date of each month. Click on the Schedule of Online Courses and/or the specific partner's link of interest for start date information.
How long does it take to complete a course?
Each partner determines the length of the course. (Access can range from 30 days to one year.) Click on the specific partner's link for detailed information. Some partners also have FAQs specific to their courses, which we recommend that you read before you register.
Can I finish a course prior to the stated length of time?
All of the online courses are self-paced which allow students to work at their own rate of speed and to complete a course prior to the stated end date. The exception to this rule are the courses taken through our partner, Ed2Go, who starts its courses on a specific day and date of the month, and only releases two lessons a week for six weeks. Click on the Schedule of Online Courses and/or click on the specific partner link for specific information on start and completion of online courses.
Will I be able to interact with an instructor and/or other students?
The online courses are self-directed, not instructor-led. Students work at their own pace from their individual computers. Some partners provide chat rooms, threaded discussions, or an email address for questions, but others do not. Again, each partner manages its courses differently and has its own guidelines. Please view specific course information for details.
What if I need help with access or have a technical problem?
All of our partners provide technical support to students with technical problems to their sites. Contact information is provided to the student in the Must-Read Information on The Next Steps provided by the eLearning Coordinator. In some cases, the partner also provides technical support contact information at their web site.
Can I see a demo of the courses?
You will be able to experience a course demonstration at some of our partners' sites. Click on the partner's link of interest for specific information.
Will I receive a certificate?
All students can obtain proof of completion for online courses; however, the certificate process depends on the course, as well as the partner who manages the course. Generally, proof of completion is issued upon request after verification of completion with the partner. Students who want a certificate should send an e-mail including their name, address, telephone, and course title to the eLearning coordinator. Upon verification of completion of the course with our partner, a certificate will be mailed within 30 business days. The exception is courses taken through our partner, Education to Go (Ed2Go) where students must print proof of completion directly from our partner's website. After registering, students are provided detailed information on how to obtain proof of completion for the specific course. It should be noted that Valencia Enterprises is the continuing education division of Valencia Community College . We offer professional development courses which are not for credit and do not lead to a degree. Information about online credit courses can be found at www.valenciacc.edu.
Enrollment and Registration Questions
How do I register for a course?
Students can register for most courses online. However, there are some partners who manage their own registration process so students must register from our joint web sites with the partners. Registration for courses taken through Education to Go (Ed2Go) can only be done via the partner's web sites with use of a credit card.
By when do I need to be registered for a course?
For most online courses you can start them at any time, and there is no cut-off date, with the exception of our Ed2Go partner which starts its courses on a specific day and date of each month. For the Ed2Go courses you must be registered by the start date. Click on the Schedule of Online Courses , and/or click on the specific partner link for start dates.
How much do the courses cost?
Prices vary depending on the course and the partner who manages the course. Click on the Schedule of Online Courses and/or click on the specific partner link for price information. The cost of the course is stated with the individual course.
Are there any additional fees?
There are no additional fees to register for a course; i.e., college application fees; however, there can be additional fees for required books and/or software. Most online courses do not require books, but for some courses, such as insurance or test preparation, books may be required. The computer and internet courses taken through our partner, Ed2Go, require that you have the specific software installed on your computer. Courses taken through our partner Gatlin Education Services require books and software, but all materials are included in the cost for these specific courses. Students should thoroughly review cost requirements for each specific course before registering.
Do you have a payment plan or financial aid?
No. Payment is due upon registration of the course.
How will I know when to start the online course?
Students who register online can print a confirmation, which provides a web site address that students can access and obtain must-read information on The Next Steps, including the process for starting their courses.
Students who register using one of our other options (telephone/fax) will also receive a confirmation in the mail with the same information. The must-read Information explains in detail the process for how a student starts a course with the specific vendor. Students will receive their access information by e-mail. E-mail is the mode of communication; students will not be notified by telephone; however, a daytime telephone number is needed in case we have questions.)
Generally, you can start a course within 2-3 business days with the exception of the Ed2Go courses, which start on a specific day and date of each month. Also, for the Ed2Go courses, access information is not sent to the student.
Students are required to complete an online orientation and create their own user id and password information at the time of registration, which is done at our joint site at http://www.ed2go.com/vcc. Upon completion of the online orientation, students will be able to access a link for access instructions.
Who do I contact if I don't receive access to a course for which I am registered?
If you do not receive your access information within the referenced time, send an e-mail to the eLearning coordinator; include your name, date of registration, course title and telephone number.
Please note that due to the number of recipients, e-mail information from the eLearning Coordinator is often sent blind-copied (BCC) or in the case of our partners, from an automated registration system.
If you have your filters on your email service set very high, your access information may be misdirected to your "junk" or "spam" mail, if it doesn't recognize the e-mail address . It might be necessary to add the eLearning (elearning_info@valenciacc.edu) and/or the appropriate partner's e-mail address) to your address book. Contact your ISP provider for additional information about your specific e-mail setup.
Who do I contact regarding receipts or payment inquiries?
The confirmation that students receive after registering also serves as a receipt. Students who register online can print their own confirmation; students who register via the telephone or fax through our customer support center will be mailed a confirmation. For questions regarding receipts, contact our Customer Support Center at 407-582-6688.
If I cannot complete my course by the end date, can I get an extension?
Generally, students must complete their courses within the stated designated timeframe. Students do not have indefinite access to an online course. For unusual circumstances, the eLearning management will review this issue on a case by case basis. (There are some courses for which no extensions can be granted.) Extension requests beyond 30 days of the student's expiration date will not be granted.
What is the refund policy?
Online courses are nonrefundable. Students should review requirements for online courses prior to registering.
